I was commissioned by Flyve publisher to create the cover of the thriller “Contato Desconhecido”. In this work by author Bruno de Deus, detective Joana needs to put aside the shock of her terminal illness and fight against time and against all evidence to unravel the mysteries behind an alleged kidnapping. But how can one believe the words of a hostage when all her social media suggests she never disappeared?
For this cover, I decided to play around with the design space a bit, turning the title area into a crime board. In addition, I found it necessary to present the protagonist's desperation, tiredness, but mainly persistence when facing this last challenge, showing her head down over a series of clues, evidence and exams spread across the floor, but firmly clutching her gun.
Finally, I used the back cover to illustrate the two versions of Miriam, the possible hostage. One being the one who walked through the front door of the police station claiming a kidnapping... and the other who posted amazing photos from her vacation when she supposedly shouldn't be seeing the light of day...
To know the truth and the outcome of this story, just read “Contato Desconhecido”.
